Haley Bennett is one of those lucky-duck lovelies who schlep to Hollywood carrying little more than a knapsack and within several months land a juicy part in a major movie—in Bennett’s case, the upcoming romantic comedy Music and Lyrics, in which the 19-year-old Floridian stars as a Britneyesque pop tart under the tutelage of a pair of songwriters played by Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Of course, Bennett may have reconsidered her career choice on the first day of shooting, when she was asked to perform an elaborate lap dance for Grant and Barrymore (in front of the camera—behave, people!). “It was very embarrassing, but afterward we all just laughed,” says Bennett, who politely booted her mom and stepdad off the set while she shook her moneymaker. Meanwhile, Bennett is writing songs, working on getting her own record deal (her influences are more Jewel than Spears), and trying to lie low amid the Hollywood scene. “No, I’m not getting thrown out of any nightclubs,” she says. “I don’t know if that’s in the cards.”
